Sanjay Dutt is a Bollywood actor who in the past, has been through quite a few ups and downs. Obviously this is regarding the 1993 bombings in Bombay which had him arrested for possession of illegal weapons. After serving his sentence, he was released in 2016. Sanjay Dutt has been the stereotypical bad boy of Bollywood. His drug addiction was spurred after he lost his mother to cancer. Thereafter, we have seen him break down emotionally a number of times, but he has also picked himself up and fought back with life. Sanjay Dutt has been known for his amazing acting in a lot of Bollywood films but he is also known for the emotional wreck he was when he was dealing with drug addiction.

Sanjay Dutt has been known for his intense drug addiction which led to him suffering quite a bit in his life. He has said in quite a few interviews that he started taking drugs when he was in college because it was the “thing” at that time. He continued taking drugs for twelve years of his life. Sanjay admitted to having tried every drug in the book. Once he realized he needed help, he was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital for three weeks, after which he was sent to a rehab in the US. When he came back, he had successfully kicked the habit

There are many controversies regarding Sanjay Dutt. Let us take a look at a few of them. 

1. Obsession with guns. 

The obsession Sanjay Dutt has with guns has landed him in huge trouble. He had licensed guns at his place before the AK 56 was recovered from his house which is the reason he ended up in jail. His alleged links to terrorists and his prison stints made him a polarising figure in Bollywood. He also has lamp shades in the shape of a gun. Obsessed much?

2. Underworld Connection. 

Sanjay Dutt’s conversation with Chota Shakeel was one of the biggest controversies of his life. Chhota Shakeel is an Indian crime boss and a high-ranking leader of the D-Company, a criminal group based in South Asia Therefore, Sanjay Dutt has been known to have an underworld connection. In fact, he had taken the supply of guns from Abu Saleem. He also named another underworld don when police questioned him about illegal possession of Arms. Makes this seem a “little” suspicious doesn’t it? 

3. His affairs. 

Sanjay Dutt became the bad boy because of his alleged love affairs. He started dating Tina Munim. Which ended up being the most impactful affair of his life. They had dated for almost 2 years before Tina called it quits. He went on to marry Richa Sharma after a few months. But after she was diagnosed with brain tumour and moved back to the US, the rumours of his affair with Madhuri started. Sanjay seemed to have already abandoned her, even though his alleged affair with Madhuri was short lived. She had recovered and came back to India for Sanjay, but the tumour struck again before claiming her life. Meanwhile, he was linked to a number of people like Lisa Ray. He married Rhea Pillai but was divorced soon. And he finally ended up tying the knot with Manyata. 

4. Bad relationships with Co-actors

It is said that Sanjay Dutt’s relationships with fellow actors in Bollywood have always been deteriorating. There was a time when Sanjay and Govinda were very good friends, but later their relationship deteriorated badly. At the same time, his relationship with Salman had deteriorated too.

Controversies About His Biopic, Sanju. 

When the movie Sanju came out, people claimed that it was Sanjay Dutt’s way of ‘white-washing’ his image. His image had been tarnished because of his drug addiction and connection to the underworld. People believed that releasing his biopic was a way to come clean to the public. The film was made by Rajkumar Hirani and it portrayed Sanjay Dutt’s entire life till date. There is no doubt that the movie has done a brilliant job with the film showing Sanjay Dutt’s addiction to drugs and his time in jail. But, there are few aspects that still remain untouched, leaving a sense of disappointment. 

The filmmaker was accused of not showing the actor’s life in its entirety and Sanju was seen as an attempt to hide Sanjay Dutt’s controversial side and show the media in a bad light.
