Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un in COMA

Kim Jong-Un is a North Korean politician who has been the supreme leader of North Korea since 2011. He has also been the chairman of the Workers Party of Korea since 2012. From the end of 2010, Kim Jong-Un was viewed as the heir apparent to the leadership of North Korea. Following the elder Kim’s death in December 2011, the state television announced him as the “Great Successor”.

Kim holds many titles, such as Chairman of the Workers Party of Korea, ex-officio Chairman of the Central Military Commission and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission. He is also a member of Presidium of the Politburo of the Workers Party of Korea. That is the country’s highest decision-making body. In July 2012, Kim Jong-Un was promoted to the highest rank of Marshal in the Korean People’s Army. This stabilized his position as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. The media often refers to him as Marshal Kim Jong-Un, “The Marshal” or “Dear Respected”. 

Dictator or Demi-God?

Kim rules a dictatorship where nothing is free or fair. Elections are not fair or free. The government critics are prosecuted. The media is controlled by the regime. Internet access is also limited and there is no freedom of religion. His regime operates a large network of prisons and labor camps that has imprisoned and killed many people. The regime convicts people for political crimes and uses collective punishment. This means that members of the family get punished for the crime of one person.

North Koreans are subjected to systematic, widespread human rights violations. The regime seeks to dominate every aspect of the citizens lives and terrorizes them from within. The regime exercises extensive control over the North Korean economy. Since coming into power, Kim has ordered the execution of several North Korean officials and he is also said to believe to have ordered the assassination of his half brother, Kim Jong-Nam in Malaysia.  

Dealive? 

The big question that arises in everyone’s minds hearing these controversies is, is Kim Jong-Un alive or dead? 

Kim Jong-Un has been the subject of speculation for around two weeks in the beginning of May, after various reports have claimed that he is in poor health or may have even died.

Kim Jong-Un at that time resurfaced in public view, the North’s state news media reported, contradicting three weeks of rumours and unconfirmed news reports that he was in grave danger after undergoing heart surgery. He appeared at a ceremony at a factory in the city of Sunchon.

Speculation about his health and about who would take over after him began swirling after Mr. Kim missed the state celebrations of his country’s biggest holiday on April 15. On that day is the birthday of his grandfather Kim II-Sung, the country’s founder. Rumors stated that Mr. Kim was in grave danger after a heart valve surgery or in quarantine after contracting Covid-19. It was not the first time that Mr. Kim had disappeared from public view for weeks at a time or been the subject of intense speculation about his health. 

The Possible Heirs

The Mount Paektu bloodline or Mount Baekdu bloodline (the Kim dynasty), is a three generation lineage of North Korean leadership descending from the country’s first leader Kim II-Sung. The Kim dynasty has ruled North Korea since 1948. The power struggle within the dynasty has been violent with Kim Jong-il’s brother-in-law Jang Song-thaek and Kim Jong-un’s half brother, Kim Jong-nam, having been killed by execution by the regime.

Kim Yo Jong – Now the chosen one

Kim Yo-Jong, the younger sister of Kim-un is considered to be a rising star within North Korean politics. She has been groomed from a young age and has also represented North Korea in the Winter Olympics of 2018 in South Korea. Which made her the first member of the Kim dynasty to visit since the end of the war. She has also played a key role behind the scenes.

She was born in 1988 to be the yougest child of former North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il.

Kim Yo-Jong studied with her older brothers in Bern, Switzerland under the assumed name “Pak Mi-hyang”. During this time she is believed to have developed a close relationship with her brother Kim Jong-un. After returning to Pyongyang, she completed a degree in computer science.

She has been said to be the driving force behind the development of her brother’s cult of personality, modeled after that of their grandfather, Kim Il-sung.

Right now, at the age of 32 she is married to  Choe Song

Kim Pyong-il

Another possible heir is Kim Pyong-il. He is the last living son of the country’s founder Kim II-sung. After losing to Kim Jong-il, he spent four decades as an ambassador to various European countries and returned in 2019. He has been considered as having an advantage over Kim Yo-Jong due to being male but a disadvantage in lacking connections.  

For the time being, Kim Jong-un is alive and well and will continue to rule. 

Strange Facts About Kim Jong-un:

  • Kim Jong-Un’s date of birth is unknown. 

Kim Jong-un was born on either the 8th of January or the 6th of July, 1982 or 1983. Or maybe 1984. Why is it such a mystery? It is said that the leader wants to look older and more mature, so his official date of birth is 1982. But South Korean intelligence claims that Kim Jong-un was actually born 2 years later. 

  • Kim Jong-Un has several official titles 

The “Main Leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Leader of the Party, and the People.”

And also:

  2. “The Brilliant Comrade”
  3. “The Genius Among Others”
  4. “The Marshall of North Korea” 
  • He was educated in Switzerland under a different name. 

In a very prestigious school near Bern, Switzerland, there was a student from North Korea from 1998 to 2000. He was registered as a member of the embassy. It is said that he avoided stating his real name.
