The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking its power under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act have blocked 59 apps. It is believed that they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, the defence of India, security of state and public order. Inputs from intelligence agencies have indicated that these Chinese apps have been used as either spyware/malware and are in clear violation of the terms of usage, compromising a user’s privacy.
