It Ends With Us is a book written by Colleen Hoover. She is an International and #1 New York Times bestselling author of romance, YA, thriller, women’s fiction and paranormal romance. This book has a 4.39/5 rating on GoodReads.
It Ends With Us is a book about a girl named Lily who comes from an abusive household. Her father physically abused her mum for years and she was a constant bystander who tried to convince her mother to do something but love is a weird thing, it makes you accept any sort of behaviour and eventually you get used to it. Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. While in high school, Lily makes a new friend, Atlas. He becomes her first love. He eventually moves away and she never sees him again for a long time. She later moves to Boston and starts her open business -a floral shop.
She makes a new friend/employee Allysa whose husband is Marshall and brother Ryle. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. Life takes a sudden u-turn in her life and as questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. Towards the end she begins to realise why her mother was okay with her father’s behaviour and why she shouldn’t have to be okay with it.
It Ends With Us is a extremely captivating book. The book fills you up with so much emotion, you don’t understand how to feel about it. You have tears and smiles at the same time. It is an extremely powerful story. We experience everything through Lily’s eyes- her heartbreak, her love, everything. This book will make you fall in love and rip your heart out too. This book is very sad, painful and exceptionally honest. It is absolutely addicting and forces you to reconsider your preconceived ideas about abuse. Colleen Hoover knows her audience so well and her writing is very clean and lucid.
The only critique I have for this book is that I wanted to read more about Atlas. He was an extremely interesting character and it would have been nice to learn more about him.
Overall, this book has stolen my heart. It had me addicted from the start and I could not put it down. I would definitely recommend reading it.
