Dance Exercises

Exercise. A word we might despise because we’re lazy or sometimes just don’t have time for it. What keeps you from exercising? Don’t say you don’t have the time, we’re all home right now. If you’re having trouble beginning an exercise plan or following through, you’re not alone. Many of us struggle getting out of the sedentary rut, despite our best intentions. You already know there are many great reasons to exercise, from improving energy, mood, sleep, and reducing anxiety, stress, and depression.

Making exercise a habit takes more. You need the right mindset and a smart approach. While practical concerns like a busy schedule or poor health can make exercise more challenging, for most of us, the biggest barriers are mental. Maybe it’s a lack of self-confidence that keeps you from taking positive steps, or your motivation quickly flames out, or you get easily discouraged and give up. We’ve all been there at some point. Whatever your age or fitness level, even if you’ve never exercised a day in your life, there are some fun ways to get yourself going and burn a few calories on the way.

Have you ever tried dancing instead of the typical working out? No? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Let me tell you the different types of dance exercise you can try. This might be the kind of exercise you and your entire family would enjoy. Let’s dance our way into fitness. Yayy.

1. Zumba

Zumba is a high intensity cardio workout and is also an exciting dance form. This dance helps in toning the entire body and involves a beautiful blend of slow and fast steps, in a fabulously choreographed rhythm. As the pace slowly picks up, you could actually feel the heat on your toes and your body attuning itself to the rhythm.

2. Aerobics

Aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness. This is actually the same as garba so you’ll probably enjoy it.

3. Jazzercise

Jazzercise is the original dance party workout. Blending dance with Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and strength training, one 55-minute session can burn up to 800 calories.

4. LaBlast

LaBlast is a ballroom dance inspired dance fitness program. LaBlast combines different moves from a variety of ballroom dances into a 30-minute workout. This dance workout will also tune your balance, posture and coordination. You’ll do twists that tone your obliques and jive kicks that target your lower abs.

5. NIA

NIA is Neuromuscular Integrative Action or a combination of dance, yoga, MMA and more. This exercise is designed to not only exercise your body but to open your mind to your own abilities as well.

6. Power Garba

Power Garba fitness is a new trendy fitness style with a unique combination of Garba, which has the essence of traditionalism with modified beats. Power Garba fitness serves the purpose of dance and can be proved to be an easy way to stay fit with its diversified beats, energetic moves, and high intensity.

7. Cardio Dance

These classes may include hip-swaying and chest pops, but their pace is fast and their intent is to make you break a sweat. Cardio dance classes are often based on certain styles or forms of dance.

8. Barre Workouts

Barre workouts are ballet-inspired routines that incorporate elements of yoga, Pilates, and strength training with light weights. Posture and proper form are a primary focus as instructors lead students through moves that challenge balance, stability, and core strength. The workouts are generally low-impact and moderate-intensity, offering a modest cardiovascular benefit. Popular workouts include Physique 57, Barre3, The Bar Method, Pop Physique, and Pure Barre.

9. Mind-Body Dance

Mind-body dance typically incorporates elements of yoga, tai chi, or martial arts into a flowing routine. These workouts offer combined benefits ranging from improved cardiovascular health to enhanced flexibility and reduced stress.

10. Sensual Dance

Sensual dance classes are a little more sexual and include everything from belly dancing to pole dancing. Some options, such as burlesque-style or striptease classes, tend to have a stronger focus on raising your heart rate, while pole and aerial classes increase their focus on total body strength and flexibility.

Wrapping Up

Dancing is a whole-body workout that’s actually fun. It’s good for your heart, it makes you stronger, and it can help with balance and coordination. A 30-minute dance class burns between 130 and 250 calories, about the same as jogging. So why not do it the fun way?
